Little Girl Party Tips From Little Girls

Author Sherry Larson wrote “Like star dust glistening on fairies’ wings, little girls dreams are of magical things.” And a party for little girl is no different. We have several girls in the neighborhood that come around to visit on a regular basis. So, I did an unofficial survey about their party ideas. They actually have had little girl parties, and I’ve been able to observe them first hand. This is what the girls told me.

They want to sit around, put on nail polish, gossip about boys, and giggle. That’s pretty much a given. But what else can you do to enliven a little girls’ party?

Sabrina, age 7, tells me that it’s cool if you have an older brother, or Dad I’m guessing, who’s a heavy sleeper. You can put makeup on him, paint his nails, put whipped cream in his hair and tickle his nose with a feather. He might be mad when he wakes up, but then you outnumber him.

Angela, age 10, says to make sure there are plenty of drinks and snacks on hand . She says they really like it when they can build pizzapopstheir own snacks, like crackers with pepperoni and cheese; or marshmallows combined with peanut butter and bananas.

Katie, age 8, likes to watch scary movies . It’s best to let kids watch the old ones that scared us so much when we were young. Stick with the old standards like Dracula or Bride of Frankenstein, or maybe Godzilla. This is something that little girls can relate to their parents.

Let them make a tent. All three girls said they love to take a blanket and make a tent out of it, and then hold a flashlight up to their face and look all scary.

When I asked about video games, Sabrina said “No, we don’t want any; they’re bad for your mind.” From the mouths of babes…

For a really cool little girl party, just go to the dollar store and buy tons of little party favors, and lots of nail polish and other beauty items. You can keep a gaggle of little girls happy for hours with a bottle of nail polish. And maybe one of those foam things you put between your toes when you’re putting on polish.

Of course, it’s best not to give them too much sugar, if you value your sanity. Try to push healthy snacks and drinks on them, like green tea and rice cakes. They won’t like it, but really, what are they going to do about it? They could gang up and wait till you’re asleep, but you’re likely to outwait them, little girls go to sleep early in general.

At any rate, if you’re hosting a little girl party, well, I can sympathize.
