Fall Photo Shoots: Four Fun Ideas for Locations and Accessories

flickr-apple-orchardWhen the air turns crisp, thoughts turn to leaves changing colors and falling, apple cider and pumpkins, and preparations for the upcoming winter holidays. This year, carve out a little time to make use of Mother Nature’s props, paired with some fall accessories like cozy leg warmers, soft kufi hats and hair bows in autumn colors, and snap some photos for your holiday cards. Here are four ideas for photo shoot venues and ideas for mixing up accessories:

The Apple Orchard or Pumpkin Patch- There’s hardly a better way to spend a day with the family than by going to a local orchard or pumpkin patch to get some of this year’s bounty. If you’ve got a child under 18-months or so, be sure to snap some photos of her in one of the rustic baskets that are meant for your freshly-picked produce. Put your little one in the basket, fill it up with leaves and strategically place some more apples or pumpkins around it to create a holiday-card-worthy picture.

Sporting Events- Dress up in your team’s colors, add some of these adorable sports-inspired leg warmers and head out on game day to watch the game and snap a few pics. Be sure to capture pictures of the kids watching the game and cheering for your team. Don’t forget to get one of them with the mascot and their favorite team member–especially if it’s an older sibling or family member!

Local Parks- Dress the kids up in layers, like leggings, leg warmers and tutu skirts with long-sleeve tops and vests on top. Let the kids play as usual but do fun things like make a leaf pile at the bottom of the slide or let them toss leaves up in the air as you snap away. Take some balls, discs, jump ropes and other outdoor things your kids like so you can get some non-posed shots.

Down on the Farm- Go for an all-out country look with crisp denim and warm sweaters or hoodies, casual boots or shoes and kufi hats to keep the kids’ hair in place as the cool winds blow. Let the kids “hide” amongst standing corn stalks and get active shots of them running through a grove of trees or wooded area. Don’t forget the oh-so-sweet pics of them with their favorite animals.
